Municipal Elections.
* NELSON. Much interest was taken in the local government elections yesterday, and especially in the contest for the Mayoralty of Nelson between Messrs W. Look and W. W. Snodgrass (reports the “Colonist.”) It was the third time they had opposed each other. Mr Lock bad been twice successful previously, but this time be suffered defeat. As on previous occasions, the candidates were not separated by many votes. The voting was as followsW. W, Snodgrass, 1184; W. Lock, 1152. Majority for Mr Snodgrass 32. BLENHEIM. The following was the result of the election for the mayoralty J. J. Oorry (retiring Mayor) 724, W. Oar 455. PIGTON RESULTS. MR RIDDELL DEFEATED. Eicton, April 26. A good deal of interest centered in yesterday’s elections, and the voting, -all things considered, was fairly heavy. The results were as follows: R. G. Dawkins, 287; G. J. Riddell (retiring Mayor), 160. Majority for Mr Dawkins, 127.
HALF-HOLIDAY. * The half-holiday poll has resulted in favour of Pioton reverting to Thursday. The voting was as follows : —Thursday 207, Saturday 153, Wednesday 76, Tuesday 1. Monday and Friday failed to secure a vote. ANTI-OONBCRIPTIONISTB DEFEATED Christchurch, April 25. For the Mayoralty of Christchurch, Mr H. Holland, the retiring Mayor, inflicted a crushing defeat upon Mr J. McCombs, M.P., who stood as an Anti-oonsoriptionist. Thera was a vary heavy poll. The returns showed : Holland, 12,177: McCombs, 6381; majority for Holland, 6796. On the West Coast the Protestant Patriotic ticket carried every seat.
