Financing the War
SECOND NEW ZEALAND LOAN Wellington, Feb. 28. Questioned to-day as to the possibility of a second war loan being floated in New Zealand, the Hon. A. M. Myers remarked that authority certainly would be asked for that purpose on the meeting of Parliament. “It is, of course, .an obvious responsibility of the Government,’’ said Mr Myers, “to raise sufficient funds for the financing of our share of the war costs, which, as is well known, now approximates one million pounds per month, The country, despite the withdrawal for military purposes of so many of our best men, is in an unexampled state of prosperity, and I venture to say that the people of the Dominion are only awaiting an opportunity of further proving their readiness to meet all the demands made upon them in support of the Empire’s war against militarism and frightfulness. Such an opportunity will be afforded when the time comes for the Government to ask for subscriptions to a second New Zealand war loan.
