The Dardanelles
TURKS FORTIFYING THE ASIATIC COAST.
London, July 29.
The Daily Chronicle’s Athens correspondent says arrivals from the Dardanelles state that the Turks apparently believe that the Allies will choose the Asia Minor coast for the new attack, and are feverishly fortifying the shore from Kutn Kale to Baba Kalessi. The whole length has, been ploughed and trenched, in which thousands of Greek Christians were forced to assist. Strong fortifications have been made at Tusla, and a number of howitzers from Smyrna have been placed behind the hills rising from Mendere. The level Plain of Troy has been heavily entrenched. ENTERIC AND DYSENTERY. London, July 28. In the House of Commons, Mr H. J. Tennant, Under-Secretary for War, announced that there was a cero tain amount of enteric and dysentery at the Dardanelles.
HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION AT MALTA.
Malta, July 29,
Lord Methuen, the Governor, states that perfect accommodation for 6000 wounded is now provided, and it will be increased to nearly 10,000 in the next fortnight. TURKS IN HOLY LAND. HATRED OF CHRISTIANS. Eome, July 29. The ’Vatican has received alarming news from the Holy Land. The Turks have cut off all postal and telegraphic facilities from the Christians, who live in complete ignorance of events. Their hatred of Christians is indescribable. Palestine has been devastated by ft plague of locusts.
