HAVELOCK HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of .the above Board was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs H. M. Reader (in the chair), W. H. Smith, W. EL Orsmau, C. G> Rhimes, and J. W. Brownlee. The secretary, Mr J. Gorrie, was also in attendance. ' The chairman welcomed the new member on the Board, Mr J. W. Brownlee. Mr J. Donald waited upon the Board re-taking the lease of the adjoining property held by Mr Finch on the Kaituna flat. He stated that Mr Finch had agreed to accept £lO for the improvements, and that he (Mr Donald) was willing to give £5 if the Board would pay the balance. If he ‘takes over Mr I inch’s , lease he would be inclined to remove the dividing fence. After some discussion Mr Rhimes moved that the matter be held over pending some communication being received from Mr Finch.—Carried. A letter was ; received from Mr 0. Passau, Kaiuma, stating that as he could pnly make use of part of the piece of land leased by him, that the Board reduce the rent from 25s to 7s 6d per year. Matter held over till next meeting.

A letter was read from Messrs Johnston and Co. asking for details of damage recently done to wharf by s.s. Huia, and enclosing £2, being the cost of repairs claimed by the Board. —The secretary was instructed to supply the information asked for, and also to pay the repairs .account, ,

The secretary reported that three of the channel beacons had been knocked down lately and required attention.—lt was arranged that the members of the Board inspect the whole of the beacons. Mr J. W. Brownlee kindly offered the use of his launch for the trip, which was accepted with thanks.

. A letter was received from the Linkwater Farmers’ Union proposing that a conference of local bodies be held to go into the question of regrading the Have-lock-Mahakipawa road.—On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr W. H. Smith, it was resolved that the Board fall in with the suggestion and that the Link*water Farmers’ Union be asked to arrange the conference. : It was resolved tb forward the amount of fees claimed’ by the Land Registry Office, Blenheim, on -section 28, block XXL, Wakamarina S.D., and that the Board apply for the certificate and title. The chairman gave notice of moving the following at next meeting That the Board go into the question of asking the whole of the Pelorus Sound, Pelorus Valley, Rai and Wakamarina districts to be included in the harbour.district.”

It was decided that Mr Wicks be written to in regard (to arrears in payments of lease. ’

The secretary was instructed to look into the question of insurance on workmen, and if the policy has been allowed to lapse, to insure with the Commercial Union. , Mr Orsman drew the Board’s attention to the lack of facilities on the. wharf for lifting bales of wool and other heavy goods from small boats.—lt was resolved that quotations for hauling gear, capable of lifting two tons, be obtained for consideration at next meeting.

Resolved that launch owners in arrears be notified that all fees unpaid at the end of June will be sued for.

It was decided that future meetings be Held at 7 p m. Accounts amounting to £6 17s fid were passed for payment. •
