MARLBOROUGH CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

The annual tournament held under the auspices of the Marlborough Lawn Tenpis Association was commenced at the Blenheim Club grounds on Christmas Day and continued on the two following days. Perfect weather was experienced, and from the standpoint of the number of entries and the standard of play it was undoubtedly the most successful tournament ever held in Blenheim. Several Havdlock players competed in both championship and handicap events and acquitted themselves very well. Mr E. H. Smith won the first-grade handicap singles, and Messrs F. C. Cowper and E. H. Smith played in ,lhe final for the Championship doubles.

The following show the results of the final rounds, and also the detail scores put up by the Havelock players. ' Men’s Championship Singles: First round—E. H. Smith beat Logan, W. 0.; F. 0. Cowper beat Boddington (Wellington) 6—4, 6—3. Second round: E. H. Smith beat Huime, 6—2, 6—3; Cowper beat' Griffiths; Smith beat Cowper Semi-final: Salmond beat Smith. Final: Salmou beat Brock.

Men's Ghampioaship Doubles: First round—Cowper audSmitba bye. Second round; Gbwoer and Smith beat Logan and Holmwood, 6—3, 6—2; Cowper and Smith beat Grant and Baddington. Final: Jenkins and Parker beat Smith and Cowper, 6—2, 7—5. Men’s Handicap Singles, first grade. First round: E. H. Smith, rec. 20 beat Soper, rec. 15, 50-34; Cowper, rec. 8, beat L.
