ADDINGTON STOCK SALES Christchurch, Last Night There were large entries of stock and a good attendance. Pat cattle sold at the previous week’s rates ; fat lambs were easier in consequence of the rush of stock at the freezing works ; store sheep sold well, especially ewes and lambs, except forward lots being a little easier. Fat sheep were irregular but sold at about last week’s prices. There was a large entry of fat lambs totalling 7,74!), the bulk being well grown and of prime quality. Prices paid were equal to fid to s;]d per lb. Best lambs made 16s to IDs 7d, a few extra to 21s, lighter 13s 3d to 15s fid. There were about 4000 fat sheep penned, made nip chiefly of ewes with a few pens of prime wethers and several lines of wethers. The range of prices were—prime wethers 18s to 21s lid, lighter 14s 7d to 17s fid, merino wethers 12s to Ifis, extra prime ewes to 245, prime 16s to 21s, medium 13s fid to Ifis fid, aged and light 10s to 13s. There was an entry of 252 fat cattle as compared with 194 last week ; prices showed to change, being equal to 22s fid to 30s per 1001 b, according to quality; steers made £9 to £l3 7s fid, heifers £6 to £lO ss, and cows £5 17s fid to £lO 12s fid. Store cattle formed a fair yarding but prices were easier. 15 to 18 month steers made £3 to £3 17s, two year steers £4 6s, two and a half year steers £5 12s fid, two year heifers £3 10s £4 2s fid, three year cows made £4 iOs to £ll ss. There was a medium entry of _ fat pigs but a good demand and the prices from last week were maintained. Choppers ran from £3 10s to £5, baconers 50s to 555, heavy pigs 57s fid to 70s, prices equalled 5d to sid per lb.
butter and cheese market
The following cablegram has been received from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, Bth March, 1913:Butter.—The market is firm for New Zealand, with a good demand, owing to the loss of Turakina, but the market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker for other butters. Coicest N. Z. per cwt., 117 s (salted); 120 s (urnsalted); Australian, 110 s; Argentine 109 s; Danish, 183 s ; Siberian 110 s. Cheese.—The market is firm, with improved demand for best quality.
