MONEY AND JEWELLERY STOLEN. Auckland, Last Night. A daring burglary took place in Auckland at the Grand Hotel. An actor named Harry Clarke being robbed of over ,£SOO in money, and jewellery valued at nearly £IOO. Mr Hall, secretary to F. M. B. Fisher, the Minister, was robbed of a gold watch, a little money, and Departmental papers. Another gentleman, Mr Russell, of Hawkes Bay, lost gold and silver amounting to £lO ; Stanley Smith, of Dunedin, £5, and Mrs Dudley, Auckland, two bracelets. There was no appearance of the thief, and Mr Clarke had only just paid 2i per cent, income tax on the amount he lost, so the circumstance is not without humour, if unpleasant. Mr Niblo, another lodger, was more fortunate as he had considerably over £SOO, but had wisely locked his room.
