On a recent visit of inspection, a Govern-' ment inspector of schools asked a number of questions of the pupils about the little* -things in the world around them. “ How many seed compartments are there' in an apple?” he asked, and “on which jaw! has the cow her teeth?" with several simi-l tar questions, to which the pupils could, it! need hardly be said, make no reply. The next day, one of the teachers was amused to overhear the following among the pupils in the play yard. A little gin had gi t some of her companions about her, i and sai 1 gravely : J “ Now, chldren, let us play I am the inspector. You’ve got to know, more cimmon things—if you don’t you will mil grow up to be fools. Now, tell me,” she' said, looking sternly at a playmate, “hoef many feathers has a hen?” •
