HAVELOCK SPORTS.

NEXT MONDAY. The weather conditions at time of writing indicate Easter weather —a chilly drizzle that may develop into a south-easter. A few shower? will do good to the running track on Brownlee Park, and let us hope that the bad weather will pass before Monday next, when all roads will lead to Havelock and the sports ground. The exceptionally good acceptances are gratifying evidence of the skill of the handicappers, Messrs H. M. Reader, J. Gorrie, and W. Buckman, and there are certain to be good fields in each event. The first race, the Maiden Hundred, is scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m., and thenceforward the events will be run in quick succession, the secretary and committee being anxious to avoid any undue waiting. Competitors must be on their marks prompt to time or they will risk a non-start. The proceedings will’ be enlivened by selections by the Havelock Band, who have bad a nice programme under rehearsal. In the evening there will bo a ball in the Town Hall, the prices being—double tickets ss, extra lady Is. There is every likelihood that if the day is fine there will be a record attendance and a fine day’s sport.
