LAID TO REST.
f She entered, and softly laid the still, white form beside those which had gone before. No sob, no sigh, forced its way from her heart, throbbing as though it would assuredly burst its bonds. Suddenly a cry broke on the stillness of the place—a single, heartrending shriek. Then—silence. Another cry. All became still i but for guttural murmur that seemed to well up from her very soul. ! She could stay no longer, but rising, left the platce. And to-morrow she would lay another egg.
