FOOTBALL.
Almost two months of football weather have passed before a move has been made to' start the ball rolliug. Locally the young fellows -oein to have lost all interest in the grand old game, which is not a healthy sign in a community such as this, and with a climate just suited for vigorous and manly exercises. Let us hope that some enthusiast will make a start and get a Club formed, for just at present it seems as though Canvasiown and Carluke will have the game to themselves at this end of the province.
The Canvastown Club are the first to make a move, having hold their annual meeting on Saturday last, at the Pelorus Hotel. Following are the officers for the ensuing year -.—Patron, Harry Atmore; president, H. Homes; vice-presidents, John Graham, M.P., T. D. Taylor, J. Shields, A. Duncan, F. Flower, A. Dillon, and C. Diamanti; I committee, F. Ball, H. Homes, C lAlquisfc, S. Josephson, H. Spear; secretary and treasurer, N. Simonsen ; club captain, H. Spear. The sub. for seniors was fixed at 3s, and for juniors at Is 6d. It was decided that a scratch match be played on Saturday next. Mr Homes kindly presented the Club, with a ball. Eight new members w'ere elected. Messrs A. and H. Lloyd being made life members. It was resolved to write to tie Carluke Club asking if Saturday, sth June, would be a suitable date to play a match with their Club. Thero is every prospect of having a really good first fifteen this ye;tr, as some promising players are taking an interest in the game.
