THE WAITARIA HALL.
TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —What has become of that energetic Committee of the above hall that we used to hear so much about? Have their efforts to raise the necessary funds been too much for them that they have sunk into oblivion and forgotten to come out of it again ? But what is more to the point, what has become of the money already collected ? It is high time there was something to show for it; i there is about £IOO in hand, and the i subscribers were given to understand i that if a start was not made by the : end of four months the money would bo refunded; and now nearly eight months have passed, and not a penny ‘ refunded or oven a start made with the building. The Committee went
to the trouble of securing a 42-years’ lease of * acre of land from the Education Board at a rental of Is per year. Methinks the high rent that the committee have to pay for that I acre of first-class hall-raising ground has rather shattered their nervous system, or maybe they are still arguing over the programme of the next social and dance to be helc. in that pokey little college on the hill. Hoping to hear soon that a start has been made in the right direction. —I am, etc., Interested. 11th December, 1908.
