130 PEOPLE KILLED.

— * — LANDSLIP AND EARTHQUAKE. Despatches from Tokio report that recently an earthquake took place in the vicinity of Kagi, in Formosa. The railway lines wore twisted, telegraph polos knocked down, and many houses destroyed. The “Nichi Nichi Shimbun” states that the casualties number over 100, while the “Jigi Shimpo” places them as high as 800. An official telegram, however states that tho earthquake caused the deaths of 60 people. Many more were wounded, and 200 houses were destroyed. A violent storm caused landslides and floods at different points in the neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, and 20 persons were killed and injured. No fewer than 12 landslips occurred at Petropolis, whore 50 lives were lost and many persons injured.
