STOCK SALE. The entries for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co.’s Havelock Suburban sale appear in another column, and further entries are invited. Scu ids settlers have not suffered through shortness of feed, and thi-i sale offers an opportunity for stocking up that should not be missed. We he ir there is a likelihood of a strong demand from the Sounds, and those who want to quit should note that the sale takes place on 15th inst. Lunch will be obtainable on the ground. The sale will commence at 1 p.m. ADDINGTON MARKET. Christchurch, January 81. There was a large entry of stock at Addington, and a satisfactory attendance of the public. Fat Cattle.—One hundred and fiftyone head were yarded, and the entry included several lines of capital quality. The large number offered resulted in prices being somewhat easier than was the case the previous week. Bteers brought from £5 17s 6d to £lO 10s, heifers £4 17s 6d to £8 10s, cows £4 10s to £7 ss. Tbe price of beef ranged from 18s to 22s per one hundred pounds, Veal calves realised from 3s to 15s for -mall and up to £2 14s for large prime vealers.
Fat Sheep.—The yarding, which was a large one, was composed almost wholly of ewes uf mixed quality, but the few pens of wethers that came forward evoked keen competition at prices slightly above those ruling formerly, Ewes sold well at about late though the sale dragged considerably towards the close. Wethers realised 17s 6d to £l, extra heavy 21s to 23s 5d ; prime ewes 14s to 16s, extra 16s 8d to 17s, aged and unfinished sorts 10s to IBs 6d. Fat Lambs.—The yarding was larger than usual, numben g about 9000, and included some excellent lines of freezers. One or two small pens showed the best quality seen at Addington for some time. The export, buyers bid freely, and prime freezers were firm at a shade above late rates. The range of prices was: Prime freezers 13s to 16s 6d, heavy weights 17s to 18s Bd, light and unfinished 11s to 12s 6d. •Store Sheep.—There was a large entry, and a satisfactory demand for all lambs and wethers in forward condition. Lambs brought from 6s to 11s, 2-tooth wethers 8s 6d t) 9s, 4tooth wethers 12s to 13s 9d, ewes 4s lid to 7s sd. Pigs.—There was a fair entry, and prices for fats were easier as compared with the previous week’s rates. Porkers brought from 80s to 88s, equal to 4fd to s£d; baconers 48s to 50s, equal to 4|d to 4fd per lb. Heavy baconers brought 62s to 655, equal to 4d per lb. Stores sold well at the following rates: Large 32s to 34s 6d, medium 22s to 80s, small 14s to 20s, suckers 9s to 14s 6d. Store Cattle.—The entry was a smdl one, and business was exceedingly dull. Two year-old steers realised up to £4 6s, 18-months old from £3 to £3 2s 6d, a bit young and backward stores were almost unsaleable ; 18 months to two year-old heifers made up to £2 2s 6d. Dairy cows were in plentiful supply, the quality being very mixed. The range of prices was from £3 10s to £6 10s.
