(From our own Correspondent.) {By Telegraph.) THE NEW SCHOOL INSPECTOR. Wellington, Last Night. , The Marlborough Education Board to-day appointed Mr J. Strachan (Assistant - Inspector in the Nelson District) as Inspector *>f the Marlborough Schools. There were fortythree applications from all parts of the colony. Mr Cameron, New Zealand Produce Commissioner in London, reports that with the view of preventing unscrupulous butchers from substituting , imported meat for English and supplying it to their customers as such, at English prices, the Council of Associated British Chambers of Agriculture, at a meeting held in London, on 2Sth March, a resolution to the effect that imported meat should be marked was unanimously carried by the meeting. Having during his recent visit to New Zealand, obtained a supply of patent ink suitable for indelible meat-marking, the Commissioner gave the Chamber of Agriculture a demonstration as to how easily and effectively meat-marking can be accomplished. To day’s Times says that Canadian oats are keeping New Zealand cats out of the South African market, owing to the fact that the Dominion .exporters can land them at the Cape iat l|d or 2d per bushel cheaper than exporters from this colony. A bankrupt in Auckland has been arrested on charges of obtaining credit by falsely representing his position; of neglect to keep the usual books of account disclosing his financial position; obtaining consent of his creditors to an arrangement of his affairs in July, 1908, by a false belance sheet ;**and of bringing about bankruptcy by rash and hazardous speculations. The Premier and Mrs Seddon left in the Hinemoa on the northern lighthouse trip last night. With the exception of Lord Onslow, the new Governor, Lord Plunket, is a younger man than any of his predecessors. The Minister Jhas now replied regretting that he finds it would not be practicable to arrange the extra call desired. The appears to have arisen with the opening of an office at Forsyth Bay, and with the arrangement under which the steamer calls there ins'oad of at Te Puru. As, however, tlr nail oil launch will continue to call Te Puru in each alternate week, it is considered that the Okoha settlers should be fairly well served. - The Minister adds that the complaint that no proper notice was given of the intention of the Manaroa to call at the fishing station instead of Te Puru, with the result that letters were left behind, is being made the subject of enquiry.
