Our Timber Resources.

Wellington, April 23. The Minister of Agriculture says that it will take seventy-five years before the colony’s timber resources are exhausted. The Government are pursuing a vigorous policy in regard to tree-planting, and it is anticipated that about five million young trees will be available this year from the State nurseries for planting, an increase of two million over the previous year. The planting done by prison labour has proved a very successful experiment, particularly at Waiotapu—so much so that it is intended to double the prison labour on the State nurseries so as to get still better results. Extensive tree-planting is to be done at Hanmer and other places this year.
