THE CAUSE.

The seemingly incredible story 4wft IB' Florida oysters are to be found growing OB trees, is explained as follows The mangrove tree, which abounds in many places, sends its shoots from the limbs downward, to, the earth, where they take root frequently in considerable depth of water, and daring high tide the oysters become attached to them, so that when the -waters recede with the ebb tide, the oysters are hanging to the limbs some distance above water. Usuallythere is no current in these lagoons, and the water rises and falls with.the winds'which,. blowing steadily in one direction for days at a time, drive the waters before them from one part of the lagoon to another, leaving a section submerged which has for dajrs r and weeks been above water, until a change of wind reverses the process. ,
