THE NEW ZEALANDEBS IN
AUSTRALIA.
MATCH WITH QUEENSLAND
Brisbane, August 1
The New Zealanders' match against Queensland was played in perfect weather, and in the presence of so.ne 15,000 spectators.
The exposition of Rugby by the visitors was not so good as in their matches in New South Wales. This was particularly noticeable in the first spell, but in the second half there was more combination among the men, and the game ended in a victory for the Maorilanders by 17 points to ml. Wood captained the visitors.
In the, first spell play was fairly even, and the only score was notched by New Zealand, Asher crossing the line, and Wallace converting. In the second half Stead, Wood, McGregor, and Armstrong each scored a try, but Wallace was not successful in converting any of them. For the visitors Wallace at fullback gave a magnificent display, and the manner io which he at times extricated his side from tight corners elicited hearty applause. Kiernan, McGregor, and Asber were prominent throughout, while Lonsj, Tyler, and Cooke wove about the best of the forwards.
The Nelson and the Marlborough junior representative teams met on Saturday, at Dr lunes' grounds, Redwoodtown, the game resulting in a win for the latter team by 38 points to nil.
