HOW IT REACHED HIM.
One day a teacher was giving the class a lesson in geography, and she. was telling them about the Equator, which she said was an imaginary line running round the centre of the earth.
Having occasion to question them later on, she said : “ Which of you can tell me what the Equator is ? ” Up shoots one of the boy’s hands, and he shouted :
“ Please, it is a menagerie lion running round the face of the earth.’
" I am told,” said the friend, ” that the Manager you have left was paying you a fabulous salary ?” “ No,” answered Mr. Stormington Barns ; “ not fabulous—imaginary.”
Pater — ”My boy, Washington could not tell a lie.:’ Willie— “ Well, pa, if he really
couldn’t it was no credit to him, that he didn’t ”
