AN INTERRUPTED DANCE.
During the Franco-Spanish war (1808-14) a tptlnr at Berga, in Catalonia, was ordered by General D’ifispsna to make a certain number of uniforms which had to be ready at an early date. Shortly after receiving the order the tailor waited on the general, and informed bum that be could not get anything like the ut cessary number of seamstresses to complete the order in time. The general thereupon caused notice to be given of a great ball, to be held in the town, to which all the inhabitants were invited. The evening of the ball came, and the room was filled with would-be dancers. Before they could begin, however, a company of soldiers appesred, aud remaved every male person from the room. The tailor then entered, with the cut-out uniforms and a number of needles, threads, &c.. and, under military compulsion, the woman had to sit down and sew until the order was completed.
