THE FAR EAST.
London, September 22. The Tuna states that, the Dowager Empress of China has recovered her ascendancy, over the Emperor, and has secured the expulsion of Kang Yumese, who advised the recent reforms in China. . The Empress has taken charge of the Government,' and attends all the .Cabinet meetings and audiences, and she approves of all edicts before they are issued. Li Hung Chang’s reinstatement is expected at an early date. Shanghai, September 23. The Marquis Ito, on Tuesday, discussed with the Emperor of China-proposed reforms. Subsequently the palace was in a state of revolution. Ah edict issued in the Emperor’s name, but really dictated by the Dowager Empress, proclaiming the restoration of the Regency. The gates of Pekin were closed with great suddenness. The British fleet is cruising in the Gulf of Pechili.
THE DREYFUS CASE.
- Paris, September 23 There is much exitement over the latest developments in the Dreyfus case. It has transpired that Zurlinden, as Minister of War, ordered that prosecution without consulting other members of the Cabinet. He, secured the Governorship of Paris to pu t his own order into execution.

THE RISING IN CANDIA.
London, September 24. France and Russia have accepted the suggestion of Admiral Canevaro for the settlement of the Cretan difficulty, subject to Lord Salisbury's modifications. The four Powers interested will: Only guarantee the safety of Mahommedahs to the extent that they are now protected by Turkish troops. Candia, September 25.
