Licensing Committees.
CITY OF NELSON. There will be no contested election for the City of Nelson mittee, only the required number having been nominated as candidates, and these have therefore been declared duly elected. Four of those elected, viz:—Messrs P. Best, 0. Bird, W. Akersten, and J. Scott were members of the former Licensing Committee, and Mr W. P. Simmonds, the new member, hails from Havelock. After the result of the local option poll there was a feeling among the Temperanco Party that there was no necessity to bring out candidates of their own particular views if men of probity, who could be looked to fairly administer the law in accordance with the decision of the electors, were nominated. That the new Committee are considered to be such may fairly be assumed by their unopposed election. — Colonist.
WAIRAU. •
The following gentlemen have been nominated as candidates for the Wairau Licensing Committee:— Messrs J. Coleman, T. Horton, H. L. Jackson, H. M. Reader, and H. C. Seymour. As the number of nominations is the same as the number of members required, these gentlemen have been declared duly elected. AH the new members, with the exception of Mr Reader, held seats on the old Committee. The election of the Licensing Committee this year is barren of public interest. This remark applies to other parts of the Colony, as well as to the Wairau, the absence of the feeling that was apparent on the occasion of the electipns of 1894, being due to the, resolution of the Prohibitionists of the Colony to take np part in the proceedingg.r^-2Vmes.
