Land Board.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday and Tuesday, Present.—The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Messrs Redwood, Mills, Parsons and Seymour. An application by Cawte Bros, to purchase the remainder of their leasehold on the Hampshire Hill runs, containing 1,309 acres, was referred to the Warden.
The Surveyor-General wrote re the question of exchanging pastoral licenses for leases in perpetuity, pointing out as this was not provided for in the Land Act, the procedure should be as follows—The applicant could apply for land under section 114 or 115. Resolved that as the Commissioner had already replied not to take any further action at present. The Ranger reported on Sections 45, 46, and 86, Block Y., Linkwater, on which no improvements appear to have been made since the land was taken up on perpetual lease. Resolved to declare the lease forfeited.
J. O’Leary wrote asking that a condition as to free ingress and egress over the portion of the river-bed granted to C. O’Sullivan be inserted in the license, —Eesolved to postpone the matter till next meeting. Eesolved that in the opinion of the Board it is advisable to give public notice warning persons against setting fire to bush on Crown Lands, and also that the Government be recommended to authorise the cost of sowing grass seed on Crown Land in south Marlborough and the Sounds where fires have lately destroyed the bush. The Board then adjourned.
