Shanghai, June 7.
The Japanese success in North Formosa has disorganised the Chinese forces. In Naipehu, a large town in the North of Formosa, Native soldiers are looting and firing the houses, and they also fired many Government buildings. The Republic recently established in Formosa has collapsed. It is reported that rioters in Changtu have destroyed the houses of the English, French, and United States missionaries. The missionaries, however escaped injury.
June 8
The German gunboat Itlis bombarded and silenced a Chinese fort at Hove because the authorities prevented the departure of a steamer carrying Pang Ching, President of the Formosa Republic. The steamer afterwards proceeded on her way to the town of Taipehafa, in Formosa, where a powder magazine was set fire to and exploded, killing 90 parsons.
London, June 8
The Daily Tdegrapn states that Russia is about to issue a loan in Paris of seventeen millions sterling at four per cent., which she will lend again to China at 5 per cent., in return for permission to extend the Siberian railway through Manchuria.
