New Advertisements.

Advertise! advertise ! advertise t" <« this word contains the essence of " good business, although, as Paddy remarked "we say it, who shouldn't," nevertheless it has proved the keystone to success so often that very few tradesmen expect to make a fortune unless they have a proper medium to make known what they can provide, for where one succeeds without advertising, nine others succeed with it, and our Nelson friends are fully alive to the position as shown by the great number who are addressing the public through our columns, one of the most conspicious being E. Snod* grass who never lets the herbage grow under his feet but believes in advertising—and does it. There used to be an old saying that people who had lost their teeth " had to gum it," but that carnivorous system has become absolete—for one of our very old friends, Mr Kiernan, of Nelson, is now prepared to either take out, put in, or provide better teeth than stingy nature blessed us with,. and when not in actual use, well, you can quietly put them in your pocket, and thank the skilful denti&t who has filled them so neatly without causing any pain.

Messrs Bowden & Co., of Nelson, in their new advertisement, have so well announced where they can do business and in what lines, that it needs no comment from us to induce people to trade with them, while the concluding portion of their notice should be a great encouragement for country settlers to place their produce with this enterprising firm, and reap the direct benefit to ba secured. Messrs G. Lorimer & Son call attention to their opening notice in a column not far from this one, and if we can judge from what we see of nice) jewellery in his shop, any young* man wishing to encircle a young ladies; finger, can do so by simply payi&g for it, when the second party to the cont act is willing. As for time-pieces,, tbe reduction in price is so great that you may almost call it giving away..

Tourists and travellers who* visit Nelson can rid themselves at ones of the irksome responsibility always attached to looking after luggage by inviting the attention of Mr Cooksey, who has long established a reputation as a forwarding agent, and who now reminds our readers through another column that he is still in thV front-, van, and willing to render his assis-. tanee whenever communicated With.. The firm of James Gorrie & Son*, coach-builders, &c, of Nelson, are,; through the medium of our colusanSj. calling the attention of settlers; aiad others, to the special merit oi thair work, and as the business ooraprisoa both wheelwright and blaclcsmithing fa all its branches, we have much pleasure in recommending them to the public. Competition is the life of trade, and evidently the Auckland Clothing & Drapery Company, of Nelson, fully recognise the value of keeping the * public well posted, for they have secured a leading position in our advertising columns, and are quite prepared to do business on such terms a? must ensure a fair portion of trade in. the district, while now the postal authorities offer such facilities to everyone through the parcel post, the slight distance between centres makes: no difference, and the enterprising tradesman who freely advertises will always retain'the leading position. It is astonishing how old establishments retain the custom they do, ■ bul, like wearing old shoes, it is only those l who receive the benefits who va\ua them, and thus we find, m old triend Mr Tafner, who is oondauting the" Nelson Livery and Bait Stables, and advertises them, not only continues to get the, support of the travelling public, but has plenty of accommodation for new friends, and to those who go that way, we have no hesitation in saying, any horses placed in his charge will have no reason to grumble even in their own dumb way, for the best forage is always provided. For a choice from a great assortment of valuable furniture a would-be selector could not do better than visit the warehouse of Messrs G. -Fleming & Sons, Nelson, whose display of car* pets, handsome furniture, bedsteads^, etc., as advertised ia our columns, *mqL everything one could wish for. Tfyf nndals they secured in the other colonies when competing at the exhibitions, prove how good workmanship is appreciated, and now we have the Lady Barkly making periodical trips from Nelson, those requiring any of the lines mentioned can readily obtain them'froin this firm.

Time once past is gone forever. So anyone who has a clock or watch that is losing what is of such great, value cannot do better than have it; put right immediately, or a little earlier; arid as this oannot be dona;.-■ without help, naturally every one wishes to know where the best skill oan be obtained. Well, we charge them nothing for looking through our** advertising columns, and no doubt .the name of Brown & Kerr being anew advertisement will arrest their atten- \ tion with a moat satisfactory raaujt for all i»teWßte<U . f
