COMMERCIAL.

Christchurch, February 4

Nothing has occurred to disturb the quietude of this market, and we have no change of any importance to make iu our quotations. Outside of a few showers ot rain the weather hns continued rery favourable for harvesting, and farmers have been ablo to push on their work with little or no interruption.

Wheat.—The Europein market does not show any material alteration since our last report appeared, while Victorian wheat is quoted at 4s Id f.o.b. Locally values are merely nominal. Oats.—The hopt s of holders of this cereal are again flagging with the decline of the English market and the continued apathy of Australian Iniy.rs. What little business that is passing has been clone by our Pouthe n neighbours at lower figures than wo arc quoting. Barley.—This market h without change. "We learn, that Victorian

n allng is quoted at 3s 6d f.0.b., Melbourne. The feeling, however, as to the future of this cereal is confident, and holders are not uneasy.

Grass Seeds.—Rye gross has met with a good sale at to-day'« quotations. During tho week, however, a considerable proportion of the samples submitted was not at all satisfactory, being foul wiih weeds, and requiring extra dressing to make a marketable article. In cocksfoot there is as yet nothing do ng, and opening prices are still a tnatter for speculation. Dairy Produee.—Butter and cheese are without change either in respect to demand or price.
