No Trimming.

TO THE EDITOR. Sis, —At last we find out that Mr Hurstliouse is really a Government supporter. The Government is unpopular, especially with the miners, and thus he posed as independent. Now it turns out that the late members for Nelson, Buller, and himself met and quietly mapped out things amongst themselves in the interest of the Atkinson party. I can also prove from records from Hansard that while in the House Mr Hursthouse ignored the interests of the miners by steadfastly voting against the abolition of the gold duty, against the reduction of miners rights, and against the votes for prospecting. Now, as to Mr Phillips, he is lighter metal. In his own district where he was lately defeated for the County Council he will receive meagre support. What are the planks of his platform ? Sale of railways! the very property that will in a few years be our most valuable asset. Abolition of Government Insurance—one of the few schemes which have proved successful at no cost to the State, but with profit to the insurers and of usefulness to local bodies, who can thus negotiate necessary loans too small to place on the English market. Wipe out all the existing leaders and prominent men, and leave the destinies of the colony to novices like himself entirely. Bepresentation on the Dasis of acreage which means putting the " power "in the hands of the squatters, and them only; and lastly no further borrowing except fqi' useful public works, such as the 'Motueka Wharf. Instead of this programme of " white-wash " what have we? Income-tax, State hank, and State mint. Let the elector who will accept the exchange vote for Mr Phillips, No man of thought or com-mon-sense would do so. Mr Mills has declared his intention to vote straight to assist to dismember and dethrone the present Government, his views are liberal and progressive, his interest and knowledge of mining wants second qnly to " Dick Seddon " and mining experts of New Zealand. Electors, scorn the stings of asps and wasps, but being determined place the chosen of Waime and PiGton at the head of the poll by a triumphant majority. I am, &0., Anti-Trimmeu.
