A Courageous Woman.
The following incident, which occurred at Mahakipawa, has been handed to us for publication During the late, floods all our temporary bridges were washed away, and since then others of a .very shaky character have been substituted. On Sunday last a lady and her little son tried to cross over one of these bridges, which are nothing, more than logs. In all her Sunday finery the-poor lady tried to cross, but just .in’ the middle she slipped and fell hoadlong into the creek, which was a very considerable depth. She. had, passed two diggers within ten yards of the site of the accident, and, rather than expose her ' position, she struggled by herself, and fortunately succeeded in getting out with the loss; of her bonnet, and parasol. Such an incident of
modesty and courage is seldom found. One word or scream would have brought ’assistance, but this plucky little lady “ paddled her own canoe,” and came than a proper good ducking.
