England's Ultimatum. Fishing Boat Fired Upon. LONDON, ~ July 14. Xiord Salisbury has informed Mr Blaine, Secretary of State for the United States, that if America deals eummarily with British sealers in Behring Sea, Great Britain will protect, what she claims to be a common highway, July 21. After a strong protest made by the Marquis of 'Salisbury in ! Mty last, Mr J. G. Blaine, United States Secretary of State,- ba&revieraed the pdlicyipuriued with regard to the Behring Sea two years ago. Friction has arisen between Mr Blaine and the President over the Behring dispute, and it is probable the former will resign offiee. ST. JOHNS, ' ■' ' July 16. : The Newfoundland gunboat Fiona fired on a French fishing boat Which yas violating bait regulations, The idling boat managed to escape without ■■-dining any damage. The French warship Miguon' and H.M.S Comus are investigating the matter. July 21. Sir- J. S. Winter, Attorney-General, states that eminent counsel in Great Britain declare it is illegal to apply the modus vivendi to Newfoundland, or enforcejthe Sir Baldwin W. Walker, Captain of H.M.S. Emerald, has withdrawn the Marines from Baird's lobster factories, and has agreed to pay damages for the illegal iciosjng of these factories. ' : PABIS, '. ' ; ''.. '?..":'../ "\'"y^ i JTaly-'W..
