The Goldfields.

Mahakipawa. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Through missing the mail last week my Mahakipawa notes did not gH through, but there has been nothing exciting to record. The King Siornon nearly finished th ir wheel, and expect to be w working ordor next week,

There ia a rumour that the Alice Fell Company have struck good gold, but I cannot get their report, verified. I understand that the Hibernian are getting on the track of the gold again. They are making preparations to build a new water wheel to pump from the surface instead of into a tail-race. The Long Time and the Just-in-Time are about to build a twelve foot wheel, and have sent a man over to Wellington for a nine-inch pump, and intend to pump from the surface. Covered in tail-races hare not proved a success, as they are nearly on a dead level they block up with sediment. " Our Boys " are also building a new wheel. I have not heard of any great finds this week, but several claims are doing well. The Wairarapa have not yet got the water out. An eighth share of the Long Time has changed hands for £7O, Mr Alf. Feters being the purchaser. A meeting of the Miners' Union was held last week, when it was finally decided that the subscription be 6d weekly. - A Hurly Club was formed, here the other day, and nearly thirty members enrolled their names, -I understand that the jubficription is to be6d a week, aud as the game is an inexpensive one this will booh create a fund which will be devoted to assist any members who may be hurt or in sickness. , Mahakipawa, June 17,1890.
