MARLBOROUGH COUNTY COUNCIL.
The annual meeting of the Marlborough County Council was held on Monday, there being present—Messrs J. Ward (chairman), T. Carter, T. Kennington, 0. H. Mills, and George Dodson. • v . Mr Mills moved, That in accordan e with the provisions of. the Financial Arrangements Act, 1876, the proportions in which the moneys payable to the County from the goldfields revenue, etc., shall be divided among the Hospital and Charitable Aid boards as. follows : "Picton Hospital and Charitr able Aid Board 13 per cent; Wairaa Hospital and Cuariuble Aid Board 2 p.T cent." He explained that the alteration in the percentages was nk vided for by the Picton Board for patients coming to the Wairaa Hospital from that district. Matters had up to the present been somewhat lax between the Boards, but that had beea prranged for. Mr Dodson seconded the motion. The Chairman, pointed out that the charitable aid was different, as there was an instance where a man belonging to the Picton district was thrown on, the Wairau B >ard, and had been sup ported by the latter,.
Mr Mills said he was -willing to amen I his proposal so that the percentage to the Wairan Board should be decreased to three per cent., and the Picton reduce dt. 12 p ■ cent. The motion as fl'me (led was carried unanimously. ' ... . j He then moved,; " That in.accord-' ance with the provisions of the j ~ Financial Arrangements Act, 1876, the : in which the moneys payable to the County from the goldfields revenue, etc., shall bi divided .among the Road Boards and Town districts as f follows:—Pelorus Road Board 68 perj cent; Wainut Road Board II per cent;, Picton Road Board 5 per cent; Omaka I Road Board 1 per cent; Awitere Road Board 1 per cent ;/Spring Creek Road Board I per cent.;,, Hayelock Town Board 1 per cent There could be, no doubt that the Pylorus Road. Board ( was 1 the proper body to have the j greatest allocation, as they had done a large quantity of work; and more was J , projected. He advocated the decrease } of the allowance to the Wairau Board, Vj but if the goldfields in that district improved he would support an increase ] to the vote next, year. It did not • matter which Board got the money, so long as it was expended in the proper ] way. He also pointed out they were , now dealing with a much larger sum of money than in former years, and so ] much was required for opening out tracks that a different allocation would be required. The bulk of the miners 4 were in che Pelorus Road Board District, and naturally looked to that body j for undertaking works to the best <q advantage, and he felt sure . that none of those present wished. to deprive the s, diggers of .funds which simply accrued j" from the goldfields, and ought, to be () spent for "their special benefit. ~ 0 The Chairman quite agreed with the 0 principle of spending the money in the t j interests of those who raised it. Mr Kennington atlso pointed; out: the n necessity of placing the largest amount possible under the control and super- r( supervision of the Pelorus Road Board. Mr Carter seconded the motion, which 3 was carried. y ( The meeting then adjourned. s .
