CRICKET.
HAVELOCK V. WAIRAU. The above match was played yesterday at Havelock, and resulted.in a win for the Havelock Cricket Club on jibe first innings by twenty runs. The match was interesting and enjoyable, everyone being in good spirits, and joking and chaffing was indulged in by both sides throughout the game, and a very jolly time they all had. The display of cricket we cannot say much about, the ground being decidedly against it, but the home team proved themselves superior in batting, while the visitors showed up well in the field. The Wairau men were the first to handle the willow, but the bowling of Biddle particularly proved too good for them, to make a big score, as only 58 showed on the telegraph whenihe last wicket fell. The home team then went in, and after Header and Biddle were disposed of a good stand was made by Twidle and Mills, who brought the score up to over 50,* but after that it was a regular procession. Robertson was the most destructive with the leather for the visitors. After the first innings an adjournment was made for luncheon, which was provided by Host Reader in ; his usual excellent;style.
