There was a private view in the George's Petit Gallery, in Rue de Lege, Paris, of a magnificent work of jeweller's skill in the shape of a reproduction of Eiffel's Tower, composed of forty thousand diamonds of the first water. The diamond tower is estimated at the value of two million francs. It is said that an opulent Yankee has stepped in, as usual, and that he has offered three millions ifrancs for the toy. tteferring to the collapse of the hotel lin George street, Sydney, the correspondent of the Melbourne Age remarks:—The house contained some 80 rooms, aud it is said a few nights before had no less than 60 men-o'-;war'B men sleeping in it. It was perhaps the oldest house standing in the city, and it is said to be the identical budding in which the Bank of Australia did business in 1828 when, on the 15th of S ptember in that year, some thievea entering an unoccupie4 house opposite, tunneled under the street and clear-d the bank coffers of their contents, which lucky stroke is said to have laid the foundation of the fortunes of more than one of our ' first families,'
