PROROGATION OF PARLIAMENT.

[By Special Wire.] WELLINGTON, This day. Parliament stands prorogued until the 16th of December.

We asked yesterday for some information regarding the title of the N. Z. Land Settlement to the Pouawa Blocks. We repeat our enquiry. Messrs Day, Chrisp, Gould, and Skeet, left by the Manapouri to-day, for Napier, to pass their examination in law Mr R. Hill Fisher, Agent of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) has received the following cablegram, under date London, 12th inst. :— “.Wool sales progress firmly; up to date 159,000 bales sold. Competition by both home and foreign buyers active.” Those who knew Colonel B. L. Forster, R.A., in New Zealand—and he served with great distinction throughout the Maori War of 1860-61—will be pleased to learn that he has been appointed Assistant QuartermasterGeneral for the Dublin District, in succession to Colonel E. D. Smith, who vacates the post at the end of the month. There was a masked fancy dress ball held recently in Kensington. At midnight V*’O po’iceman called, and said the company must separate. “ Not at all,” said the host, “ this is a private house ” “ Very well, sir,” said one of the policemen, “ here are my orders, and I must take the names of all who are present.” “Do so,” responded the host. The policemen went to work, and put down all the names, making everybody feel supremely uncomfortable. Directly they had done so, one of them walked up to a table and poured himself out a glass of champagne. “ What right have you to drink my wine ?” roared the 1o t, “ I supposed, when I was invited,” responded the policeman, “ that refreshments were included and, amidst a roar of laughter, he showed his card. Both the men were simply guests.
