In the House of Lords, the Earl of Belmore, in moving for the production of papers relative to the Polynesian slave question, enquired as to the nature of the instructions given to the special commissioner at Fiji, asking whether they * recommended that Fiji should be constituted a Crown colony. Earl Carnarvon, in reply, regretted the continuance of the detestable traffic, and promised to lay the papers on the table, excepting the instructions sent. He stated that Commodore Goodenough and ?,Ir. Layard were keeping the question of annexation in abeyance. March 26. The Lincolnshire Handicap was won by Tomahawk.
