(own correspondent.) Wellington, Friday. In the Council on Wednesday last the Mortgages Debentures Bill was read a third time and passed. Ihe Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Bill was read a second time. On Ihursday the Land Bill passed through Committee with amendments. Several Bilis, which were brought up from the Lower House, were read a first and second time. The Council adjourned at 12.25 a ' ra< In the House on Wednesday the Railway Authorisation Bill was read a second time. The Special powers and Contracts Bill was committed. Amongst the Amendments made was the striking of a clause granting Te Kooti 50 acres of land at Alexandra, and also striking out the clause empowering the Governor to issue Crown Grants to Thomas Russell, of Auckland, of two allotments of 605 and 2,587 acres, The Bill was then reported, read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 3.35 a.m. On Thursday the District Bailways Purchasing Bill was read a third time and passed. Sir Julius Vogel introduced the Property Tax Bill, and the remainder of the sitting was occupied in Committee of Supply discussing the vote for Immigration of .£30,373. Ultimately the item of X’ro.ooo for the in-, traduction of Highland Crofters struck out by 25 to 15, and the vote as reduced passed. The House rose at 1.55 a.m.
