OBITUARY
HAMILTON PIONEER •Hamilton’s oldest resident, Mr. Thomas Took, of Claude street, Claudelands, has died, aged 98 years. Mr. Took was born in England, and as a young man was employed . as a market gardener in London and Surrey- He was sent to New Zealand 62 yeaiis ago by Sir James Fergusson, father of Sir Charles Fergusson, a former Governor-Gen-eral' of New Zealand, to act as stockman and shepherd on the Gordon estate near Cambridge.
The death has occurred at the Dannevirke Hospital on her eightysecond year of Mrs. Elizabeth Sarah Saunders, relict of the late Mr. F. E. Saunders, for many years secretary of the Napier Harbour Board in its early days. Deceased, who had resided in Napier for over half a century, had been living in Dannevirke with her daughter, Mrs. F. E. McKenzie, during the past 12 months.
The death has occurred in London after a long illness of Captain J. ißurton Davies, son of Mrs. and the ■ late Mr. J. F. Davies, of Mauku, aged 48. Although he had never made his home in New Zealand, Captain Davies was well known on the Dominion coast as a popular master of New Zealand Shipping Company and Federal Company vessels.
