One Farmers’ Union

Sir, —At the meeting of farmers in the City Wall yesterday there was complete unanimity with regard to the amalgamation of the Farmers’ Union and the Sheepowners’ Federation. The union is in favour, but the heads of the federation are against it, even though their members want it.

Mr. Williams stated that it was not possible to have one solid union with subsidiary committees for Sheep, wool, Imef, dairy, pigs, bees, etc. Are we gokig to have one solid union or two opposing unions, neither of which can say that they represent the farmers of the district? Suppose all members of the federation cease membership of that body and join up with the union at once —a good many federation members are already members of the union as well—the federation in Poverty Bay will then die a natural death, and as Poverty Bay is one of the few strongholds of the federation, perhaps the executive will wake up and do what the members went. After all. who put the executive where they are? MEMBER OF BOTH.
