Mr. H. .Holland has been reappointed chairman of the executive committee of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. He has been chairman since the establishment of the fund 25 years ago. Mr. D. U. Felton, of Melbourne, will succeed Sir Brudenell White as general manager for Australia of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, from Saturday. Sir Brudenell 1 White will remain chairman of the company's Australian board. Mr. J. A. Nash has been elected the first life-member of the Palmerston North Bowling Club. The retiring president. Mr. E. Bary, moving that Mr, Nash be elected the first life-member, said the club had been in existence for nearly 50 years; during that time Mr. Nash had worked not onLy for the betterment of the club, but for t'he betterment of the game generally. The Manawatu Centre, of which Mr. Nash was president, was conducted as well as, if not better than, any other centre in the Dominion.
Sir Francis' Boys, at one time chairman at' directors ot the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, now resides'in England, and holds the responsible position of director of meat and Olive stock under the Food (DeIfence Plants) Department, recently created by 'the British Government. iGther New Zea'landers whose services 'have been co-opted by the British authorities in a similar capacity are Mr. R. S. Forsyth, London, manager of the New Zealand Meat Board, and Mr. 11. E. Davis, London ropreresenlative of the Dairy Produce Board,
iMr. H. A. Mossman, being one of the oldest living members of the East Coast Railway League, and one who has persistently taken an interest in the opening up of the country between Hastings, ‘Napier, Wairoa and Gisborne by rail, 'was amongst the official guests at the opening in Wairoa to-day of the 'Napier-Wairoa section. He was accompanied by Mrs. Mossman, who is a daughter of the late Mr. David* Whyte, of Tiniroto, the father and instigator of most of the efforts that were made in the various Governments to put the railway through. The late Mr. Whyte was a railway construction engineer in India under Lord Brassey and was a great authority on such matters.
