To Contest Sprint Events Having his first race since February, Sporting Gift drew -attention to his future -prospects -when he ran third in the Taipua Hand.ica.p at Ot-aki last week-end. This gelding has been a consistent -performer this season, -winning on five occasions, and now that he is back to form he should be worth following. Sporting Gift will contest sprint events at Trentham. Not Overtaxed Although Stonehaven has not been overtaxed since the autumn, he is thriving exceptionally well. Like others of the same family, this -two-year-old has been growing very fast, and for that reason he has only been required to race once. The experience will prove useful to Stonehaven when he begins racing again next season. In conformation this -colt has made marked improvement, having developed noticeably since the autumn, but owing to his size it is not intended to hurry his preparation.

Bred the Right Way The novice by Irish Lancer from Flying Mist, under M. O’Connor's care at Ellerslie /will race as Morning Mist, She is a low-set filly and a very robust sort, whose breeding suggests that she may eventually make good. Her dam Flying Mist is by Martian fr'om Tric'has, the last-named being a sister to Caress, who produced thal good' mare Cuddle, Brother to Scotland During the last few months Odtaa

has not been required to do any, strenuous -work and he will not race again unitil next spring. This brother to Scotland won a minor event at the Te Aroha meeting last February, but did little racing subsequently. He has grown into a solid-looking gelding, also 'bearing a strong resemblance to his -relative, -and if he proves to be as of work before he is ready to race. Back From a Spell Glen Abb, who has been out of action since April, is being hacked about and will resume work again shortly. He is a bit in the “rough” at present, and will need a fair amount of work before is ready to race. Lady Meath Retired The Irish-bred mare Lady Meath has finished her racing career and is to go to the stud. Her owner, Mr. A. H. Storey, Te Awamutu, really bought Lady Meath as a yearling for stud purposes, for she has very sound blood lines—-many similar, in fact, to those of Denis Boy, a son of Soldennis, who won the Caulfield Cup. It was Denis Boy’s successes in races in Australia that induced Mr, Storey to give Lady Meath a chance to distinguish herself on the race track.

Wintering Well The stablemates Royal Message and Ringshot are wintering nicely and will be well forward for the spring meetings. Ringshot has improved in his schooling of late and will be given a chance to make good as a hurdler later on. Royal Message got on the winning list at the Whangarei meeting last April, following half a dozen placed performances on the country circuit. As this filly is partial to heavy going, she should earn some more money next spring.
