LAMB REMAINS FIRM BEEF! TRADE IMPROVES (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board’s report on the Smithfield market, covering the period ended June 29, states: — “Lamb.—The market remains very firm, and the consumption continues to be good. “Mutton.—Wethers are firm, with a better inquiry. Ewes are steady. “Beef.—Frozen beef is meeting with better trade, while rates lor chilled beef are firmer on account of the good demand and lighter supplies. “Pork.—Consumption of Now Zealand porker pigs is slow, but prices are higher owing to speculative buying. Baconer .pigs are firmer owing to higher prices for Continental bacon. “Veal.—Boneless bobby veal prices continue firm on account of the shprtage of Supplies.” The following quotations for frozen meat are those ruling on June 29, the chilled beef prices being approximate averages for the week, while the figures in parentheses refer to last week:— Frozen Mutton Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, —4Blb. and under, 4Jd (4Jd); 49 to 561 b., 4£d (4£d); 57 to 041 b.. 4d (3£d); 65 to 721.0., 33d (3gd).
