Encouraged by the growing belief that international tension is waning, speculators have begun to reappear on the stock market, but business is necessarily restricted owing to the approach of Budget day. Gilt-edgeds have shown some recovery from the worst levels of the week. Foreign bonds reflected the brighter feeling, not only in London but in the continental capitals. The Selling of gold l shares lias abated considerably. The March trade returns are inconclusive, but while exports are slightly under the level of last year a large number of exports show encouraging increases. Quantities are rising as values fall back as a result of price reductions.

The drift of capital continues to .ifTect sterling.
