HEAVY FINES

BOOKMAKING CHARGES OPOTIKI COURT HEARING (Special to the Herald.), OPOTIKI, this day. Fines of £ls and £25 respectively were inflicted on two Opotiki men, John Foy, jun., and Horace Clark, when they pleaded guilty to charges of bookmaking before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Police Court in Opotiki.

Sergeant J. Isbister said that Foy carried on business in a small way. Clark was a fairly big bookmaker and in the two years the sergeant had known him (he had done no work. Both men had been found in diotel bars having in their possession betting material, Fov was convicted and fined £ls and costs, and Clark £25 with costs.
