OIL SHALE DEPOSITS

PRODUCTION OF PETROL AUSTRALIAN CO.'S PLANS Reference to the Australian project to produce motor-spirit from oil shaledeposits in which he is interested was nade by Mr. C. F. Davis, head of the Davis Gelatine Company in Australia, on his arrival at Wellington from Sydney this week. He said the project was to be developed at Newnes, which was in the Blue Mountains, and about 150 miles out of Sydney. Mr. Davis added that very big deoosits of oil shale existed at Newnes ■ind they were to be worked by his company, assisted by the State acid; Federal Governments. The prospects for new undertakings were quite good "I think we shall be producing 35,000 gallons of motor-spirit a day early next year," said Mr. Davis. "The necessary plant is now under construction."
