APPEAL FOR AID NATIONAIi EMERGENCY W.I. FEDERATION MEETING Aa appeal to institute members to support the central organisation to be set up in Gisborne to undertake work in a national emergency was made yesterday afternoon by Mrs. W. A. McCliskie, when addressing delegates to the eighth annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Federation of Women's Institutes.

The afternoon session of the conference, which was presided over by Mrs. R. H. Wicksteed, opened with the election of officers, these being as follow:—President, Mrs, R. H. Wicksteed, Ruatoria, re-elected unopposed; executive, Mrs. H. Allen, Te Karaka, Mrs. A. Barron, Waerenga-a-hika, Mrs. D. J. dimming, Ormond, Mrs H. Hansen, Whangara, M rs - J -' C. Mazengarb, Waimata Valley, Mrs. R. Sherratt, Takitimu, Mrs. C. V. Smith. Matawai, Mrs. H. L. Twisleton, and Mrs. W. A. Wright, Motu-Motuhora. An extensive report on the Wellington conference of the council of the New Zealand Federation of Women's Institutes was given by Mrs. W. A. McCliskie, the Poverty Bay delegate to the conference, the delegate being thanked for her address.

An outline of the aims of the national emergency central executive was given by Mrs McCliskie, and Wire W. A. Wright, secretary of the federation, and all members were urged to assist in the work of the committee. Mrs. McCliskie was elected to represent the federation on the committee to be set up. All institute members were asked to hand to the respective secretaries their names and the nature of the work they would be prepared to undertake in an emergency.
