ANZAC MEMORIES

DIGGERS' STAND-TG DAW.N PARADE TUESDAY PUBLIC S*RRVTOE in A.M. TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN Preparations for the observance of the Anzac Day anniversary next Tuesday have been completed by the Gisborne (Returned 'Soldiers-' Association, which, as in other years, will conduct the principal public ceremonies for this district.

Chief among these ceremonies will be the dawn stand-to, at which the Diggers will muster'to pay their own special tribute to .fallen comrades, and the public memorial service at 10 a.m. Both will take place before the War Memorial in Kaiti esplanade, and ill connection with the later ceremony, opportunity will be given •for the laying of wreaths on the memorial stone by representatives of public organisations, and by private individuals.

The dawn parade, which was Instituted two years ago, will be held at ti a.m. this year, and a large muster of returned soldiers is expected. Many who did not take part in this function either in 1937 or 1938 nave signified their intention to be present this year, among these being several who made the trip to Sydney last Anzac Day, and there realised the significance of the early morning gathering.

S.A. Veterans Lead Parade At the public service later in the day the address will be given by the Rev. J. D. G. Hodgson, vicar of Te Karaka, who served with the forces in the Great War. This service will be preceded by a parade of veterans, territorials and other organised bodies, the place of honour being accorded to the South (African War veterans. The Diggers' Choir will lead the singing during the service. In most of the country and coastal centres there will be individuaO Anzac Day services, the Waikohu Returned Soldiers' Association having organised its usual ceremonies for the afternoon, and other centres also having made their arrangements as in past years.

A number of the district Diggers bodies will 'hold their annual meetings on .Anzac Day.

FIRST DAWN PARADE (.'LABI BY WANGANUI (Pnr Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. Mr. F. G. ,Sedcton, secretary of the Wanganui branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, states that the Wanganui Association was the first in New Zealand to hold a dawn parade. It was started four years ago with a muster of 32. which grew last year to 147: The idea of holding the parade was adopted from Australia.
