AMATEUR PERFORMANCES
STANDARD PRAISED' Congratulations on the standard of its $> reductions were extended to the Gisborne Repertory Society at its annual meeting last evening by the president, Dr. W. A. Bowie. Dr. Bowie said tihat the standard of the Gisborne performances compared favourably with that of amateur productions he had attended whilst abroad. A discussion ensued on the balance sheet, which showed that the society had made an exceptional effort to meet the demands' of the public by staging four productions in the Opera House during tihe past year. The society ulso conducted fortnightly readings and one-act plays. The retiring members of the committee, Mesdames R. G. Crawford and W. A. Bowie, Miss L. W. Bain, and Mr.. M. Mills, were thanked for their untiring error's In carrying the society aloriig so successfully during the early years of its existence. The vacancies on the committee were filled by the election of Mesckimc-s W. Kohn and A. W. Harper, and Messrs. R Coleman .and A. M. Terry. It was agreed that members should be notified as soon as the programme for the coming season was drawn up. A vote of thanks was passed to the ohairmlan, and to all who had assisted the society during the past year.
