During a recent visit to the Waikato Lieutenant-Colonel if. de L. Lucas, of India, arranged for the purchase of the polo pony Blackbird, owned by Mr. F. Klaus, of Morriiis- \ die. Blackbird is by Raceful out of Memorial, and is a seven-year-old mare. The price paid was L 250. Several purchases wore made by Colonel Lucas in Australia, and it s understood that he spent over JlbOOt) during his visit to New Zealand and the Commonwealth on 28 polo pontes for the Indian market. He is expected lo return to the Waikato to consider purchasing further ponies.
