STOWAWAY CHARGED
VOYAGE FROM SYDNEY SERIOUS VIEW TAKEN (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A stowaway who boarded tho Dominion Monarch at Sydney, Edward Michael Carroll, appeared before the magistrate, Mr. W. F. Stilwell. The serious nature oi the offence was stressed on behalf of the company. It was said that there were occasions when a ship had to put back some distance and also when a ship was on. the way Home it had to put into such a port as Gisborne to discharge a stowaway. It only needed a stowaway to be a prohibited l immigrant and it would be seen how awkward it could, be on landing at the ship’s destination. The police said' that they were unable to say whether the accused was a 1 prohibited immigrant. Mr. Stilwell said there was no power to deport him unless ho was. A remand was granted to enable the police to look into the accused’s antecedents.
