THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: Pressure is falling slowly, but it remains high over Tasmania. Conditions are still very disturbed over the central and northern Tasman Forecast: Winds rather variable, with north'erlies to north-westerlies predominating, moderate mainly but freshening at times, especially in the south, where a change to southerlies is probable again later; seas, rough about Foveaux Strait and rising in Cook Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate. Faster I ,i Tasman: Strong winds to gales between north-east and southeast; seas, rough to high. Weather: Fine in middle districts but elsewhere mainly cloudy to overcast, rain developing in the northern and southern areas, gradually becoming more widespread during the next day or two. Temperatures: Warm.
To-day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions were reported this morning at Auckland and Wellington. but blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light north-westerly breezes were blowing at Gisborne and East Cape and light southerlies elsewhere. The barometer had fallen slightly during the week end. Temperatures at 11 o’clock were: Auckland and Gisborne (>4 degrees, Tnuranga, Opotiki. and Wellington 63. East Cape (12, and Napier (il. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Midday Forecast General .situation. —Pressure is still high over south-eastern Australia and has risen in the central Tasman, but conditions remain disturbed over the north Tasman, a depression being centred near Norfolk Island. Forecast.---Light to moderate and variable winds, south to southeasterly gradually predominating and later freshening somewhat. Weather fair to fine, but cloud increasing later and some drizzling rain possible in I north-eastern areas. Temperatures 1 warm but falling. Seas slight to* moderate, but 1 atc*r rising somewhat.
